Ok thanks.

I can't seem to get the positioning to work at the moment, so I have put it in the footer for now.

What code would I use in the MackOne header.php to have the widget appear in the exact same position as the date is currently?

When I replaced the date code, it put the widget floating halfway down the page...

Many thanks again for your help

Add new widget for header:

use this in theme functions:
// sidebar stuff
register_sidebars( 1,
array(
'after_widget' => '
',

Hi there

I am using the MackOne theme (slightly altered) on a site I am doing for a friend (http://arrior.wolflan.com). I wondered if there was a simple way to add a single widget to the themes header in place of the date script?

Is this possible? If so, would you be willing to point me in the right direction as to how to go about it? I am using an Ajax page loader to keep the header from refreshing and I have a fantastic Flash MP3 widget that I would like to put on there so that navigating around the site doesn't stop the music from playing (if the user has decided to play some).

I am quite new to modifying Wordpress and have never done my own theme before..but I think you are defining a 3rd sidebar in functions.php that isn't displayed...but I can't figure out how to get this put into the header.

I would be very greatful for any help you would be willing to provide.

Many thanks in advance

Open the sidebar templates or areas where the widgets are
and look for this code:

<?php if ( function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') && dynamic_sidebar(1) ) : else : ?>

<?php recent_cmts('8'); ?>< /ul >

User Photos< /h3>
<?php get_flickrRSS(); ?>

<?php endif; ?>

example take from l_sidebar.php

and move this line
<?php endif; ?>
before the hardcoded area, so it looks like this

<?php if ( function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') && dynamic_sidebar(1) ) : else : ?>
<?php endif; ?>

< h3>Dialogue< /h3>
< ul><?php recent_cmts('8'); ?>< /ul>
< h3>User Photos< /h3>
<?php get_flickrRSS(); ?>

Now the widgetized area is before the hardcoded widget.

Hi Milo,
In the Secondary theme, whenever I drag a new widget into one of the 7 slots, the pre-existing default widget you have placed there in the code just disappears - In some instances I'd like to still have the default display, and ADD my new widget below it.

Can't seem to do this with this theme, dragging in my new widget makes the default widget disappear from the page.

Any direction on how I might keep the default widget too?

Apparently the functions file adds another ul in front of the widget area,
to solve this you have two ways: either via CSS or via functions file.

CSS, add this to your stylesheet at very bottom:

#sidebar ul{list-style:none;margin:5px 0;padding:0;border:0;}
#sidebar li{margin:0;padding:3px 0;background:url(images/cat.gif) no-repeat right center;}
#sidebar li a,#sidebar li a:visited{color:#333;text-decoration:none;}
#sidebar li a:hover{color:#ccc;text-decoration:none;}
#sidebar ul ul{list-style:none;margin:5px 0;padding:0;border:0;}

functions.php file

look for this line in the functions file:

if ( function_exists('register_sidebars') )
register_sidebars(2, array(
'before_widget' => '
',
'after_widget' => '

',
'before_title' => '
',
'after_title' => '

',

and replace it with this

if ( function_exists('register_sidebars') )
register_sidebars(2, array(
'before_widget' => '
',
'after_widget' => '
',
'before_title' => '
',
'after_title' => '
',

however it's better to start with the CSS method.

Hello Milo.
I love your themes!
I am using the "ice" theme for our site, but am having problems when I add a widget to the sidebar.
If you go to the site, http://www.thecripps.net/ben, you will see that in all of the widgets I've added, the items are indented. The original widgets (Archives, Blogroll) didn't have this problem - only when I add a widget.
I've tried tweeking different lines of the style.css, but haven't found the trick yet.
Can you help me? I don't want the items indented nearly so much.
Thank you,
Ben

Thanks Milo :)
One more question, where should I go to edit the names of the 11 sidebars so that I can identify them more easily? I noticed that your theme doesn't have a sidebar.php file, so I couldn't figure which sidebar was which, to rename them.

Updated ArtFull version for download.
Now everything is widgetized: both sidebars and all footer areas.

As stated UTW is outdated, native WP tag system works better,
however you can import old UTW tags via the import section.

Artfull update version with fixed bugs releasing today (later today).

so which means I don't have to download UTW and it will still work by default?

Also, I'm really confused about the availability of the 6 sidebars, although I've added widgets to some of the sidebars, none of the widgets appear

UTW is out of date, if you import it into the WP tag base, then it will be stored in the sql.

Artfull is not fully widgetized, only the single post/page sidebars are widgetized.
