I’m fairly new to buddypress but am I missing something? Is the “Join Group” in the group directory listing a standard feature or is it an addon? If it’s an addon. can someone please kindly point me in the right direction? Thanks. I’m currently using the “Speed” template. I’ve set up a subscriber account to test the theory that I was only seeing it from an admin point of view to no avail. As a general subscriber, this is what I see for public groups:

http://i.imgur.com/1RAdu.png

This is taken while logged in. No “join group” button there. I looked at the markup and didn’t even see any info there either. Unfortunately, I’m rather new to Buddypress so finding the right hooks for this in the default template is kinda flying over my head….

Basically, none of my users are able to join the Public groups unless they're invited. Thanks for your help.

Pls post an url where I can see the theme loaded,
theme version
also post all your plugins running, ty.

Cropping is entirely BuddyPress based, no theme interfering with avatar cropping.

Hi,

I have set up a site using Wordpress 3.0.1, Buddypress 1.2.5.2 and your Bruce theme.

When I upload an image to create a new group, the image appears to upload correctly but then I am prompted to crop it. No matter where or how I set up the crop the image is cropped randomly and shows only a very small section. Do you know what's happening and how to fix it? Or - is there any way to set up a choice to not crop? Right now it give no choice for not cropping.

widget image sizes
Can you tell me where I would find the file that governs the images sizes found in widgets. For instance, the groups widget and members widget display images that are too small. I'm using the Bruce theme.

Milo can you tell me how to remove the author's name on the glider on the home page? -- http://www.thecommunity.com/wpmu

My titles were being cut off so I set the overflow on .glidecontenttoggler .fet in the stylesheet to visible to get the whole titles. It did what I wanted but I need to remove the author name. The name doesn't matter a lot on this as they're all written by me at this point. I've removed all the references to it (I thought) in featured.php but it is still showing up. Here's my featured.php:

Okay I think I got this figured out. And I also finally figured out what the options page is you were talking about -- in themes on the dashboard. I also found in playing around with it that if I put the big image in an excerpt I can put the smaller image in the post and it grabs the big one for the slider on the home page.

Am I right in assuming that the smaller images, the ones that are about 200 x 50 px, are just meant to grab a part of the image? We aren't meant to create images for this size?

Great theme by the way.

No custom field needed, just big resolution images,
like minimum 500px,
the rest will do the theme via a built in script.

Hi Milo, I have options.php but no other page. Maybe I'm not experienced enough in this area, but it doesn't look very self-explanatory.

I am first trying to figure out how to set up the images for the slider/articles/smaller banners. it looks like the slider needs an image that's about 435 px across, I use a 200-240 px image in my posts, and there is a smaller banner that is about 200 px across.

Do I need to use custom fields to have the theme grab the right images? And if so what do I name the fields?

Mary

I suggest to check if all colors were changed,
by looking at your CSS it appears it's not changed at all places.

Use this handy tools
Firebug
Web Developer
for better working with CSS.

You can add them to the main menu like this:

open Solitude/inc/navi php template
and add the following links after this line
<?php do_action( 'bp_nav_items' ); ?>

< li>< a href="http://athlonecommunityradio.ie/wp-login.php" title="Login">Login< /a>< /li>

(without the spaces at li and a tags)

or you can try to lift the form by adjusting this value
#search-login-bar{padding:30px 0 0 0;}
in the stylesheet, ie padding:5px 0 0 0;

Thanks Milo,

I'l add the feed to my reader. One question if I may - In order to make the "Sign up" and "Login" buttons in the header visible one must tab through the user id and password fields. This causes the html block to scroll and the buttons can then be seen.

Is there any way to make the buttons visible without having to go through that procedure?

Greetings Milo,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. The site is located at http://www.athlonecommunityradio.ie This, as the name suggests is a local community radio station although the theme is of course really for a magazine.

But with a small mod to vid.php I have placed a link to stream audio, rather than display a magazine cover image. So that's a hack, but for our needs it's fine, as the functionality for building blogs, forums etc remains ideal.

Our aim is to empower both radio presenters and their listeners to interact as much as possible, as well as to attract advertisers eventually and become a focal point for our community on the web.

So far, just a couple of people have registered. They are testing it from an end-user perspective and are beginning to provide feedback on what they like/dislike. The most pressing issue right now is that the sign up button is not evident when the main site index is loaded. I think you will see the issue when you visit the site. As a workaround, I used an HTML widget to link to the register page.

It's quite exciting as this is a completely new install, and we are free to do as we wish, so I would be more than happy to keep you informed as how it is received by the public. I'm on Skype multiple IM's, but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself :-)

In conclusion I thank you again for the theme, and I can really appreciate all the work that has gone into it. My hat's off to you!

- Tom
